The Middle Fork Trail (#1003) passes through a number of old growth areas, some visible from the trail, some not. This is one of the most accessible areas to see old growth in the Middle Fork Valley.

Taylor Groves
There are several groves tucked amongst the valley walls along the Taylor River. The West through North flank of Mount Garfield are home for some while others sit directly up from the Taylor River trail. The Marten Creek Grove is one of the easier groves to access.

Pratt Groves
The Pratt Valley is an intriguing and, currently, isolated wilderness (the Forest Service may change that in 2009 with the reconstruction of the old Middle Fork trail from the Wilderness Gateway foot bridge over the Middle Fork). It is an area of amazing second growth after being logged in the 30's and early 40's by the NBTC.
